beautiful bones.

i read Psalm 32 this afternoon and was just really compelled by the imagery of “bones” here.  i did a quick concordance search and found such a wide breadth of how bones are written about in the Bible, especially in the Prophets, Psalms, and Proverbs: bones that shake, bones on fire, bones which are container of youthful vigor, of strife, bones which are wasting away, bones which are flourishing, bones which have dried up, been broken, rotted away.  there is something about these images that i find immensely captivating — a expression of things so deeply ingrained in our bodies.

“To live in this world, you must be able to do three things: to love what is mortal; to hold it against your bones knowing your own life depends on it; and, when the time comes to let it go, to let it go”  ~Mary Oliver, In Blackwater Woods
